It seems like yesterday that Easter was here, and here we are, a year later.
Most of you know that I'm a Christian, so this season is incredibly important to me. Eight years ago, after I turned sixteen, I decided to get Baptised. Baptism is a huge step in a Christian's life, as it's a public declaration of their faith. Life has been such a ride since then, and I'm definitely not the same person I was back then. I wouldn't say I'm a better person, but instead, I hope that I am more mature spiritually.
Easter marks the end of Lent, a traditional time of fasting, and starts off with Holy Week, which started yesterday, also known as Palm Sunday Easter is a holiday where Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, three days after his death. On Easter, Churches are usually decorated with lots of flowers, and have a wide spread of food to feast in after Service.
Growing up, Easter, aside from Christmas, was a fun celebration for me, because it involves a lot of eating! I remember digging into scrambled eggs and pancakes, roast chicken, and hot chocolate. It's not every weekend you get to stuff your face into such a spread, y'know.
Ever since I've started working, I've either had to go in to the office over the weekends, or brought work back home to get done before Monday morning. Thus, I've got a new found appreciation of holiday weekends, especially ones like these, where they not only mean I get to spend time with family and friends, but also because I get to sleep in a little longer, and take my time to whip up a spread! There's absolutely nothing better than sitting around a table with family and friends, just talking about anything, over a good meal.
My favourite meal for such weekends involves pancakes/waffles, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and a good cuppa, along with some juice. I also try to go to the florists to pick up some fresh blooms, so liven up the house (or my room to be specific). I love the smell of fresh flowers, especially baby breaths and lavender, because they just have the ability to make me happy. #bliss
Do you celebrate Easter? If so, how do you celebrate the holiday weekend? If not, here are some of things I enjoy on a typical holiday weekend, which you can do this Easter weekend:
Go on a hike.
I personally find that taking a stroll or running helps me to clear my head and release pent up anger. Get some friends to go on a nature trail with you, ride a bike, or take part in an activity that gets your blood pumping. You'll enjoy the endorphins your body releases, and there's really nothing better than starting the day feeling fresh and happy.
Have brunch with friends or family.
Who doesn't love brunch, right? Many cafe's and restaurants have special Easter Brunches, with cute bunny / egg themed mains and desserts. These only happen once a year, so might as well take advantage of it!
Make some baked goods.
Aside from running, I love cooking / baking. These activities just seem to be therapeutic for me. This Easter, why not try baking some bunny, chicks, and egg shaped cookies? Everyone loves a cute little snack. Bake some for your colleagues over the weekend, and I'm sure it'll help them get through the Easter Monday blues when everyone returns to work.
Ah, it feels so long since I've had time to sit down, in front of my computer, with no work to think about, just reflecting about life. Now to get back into the habit of reading a book every week. #dreamon #workneverends #werkwerkwerk
